WHERE'S THE TRAFFIC? 7 REASONS NOBODY IS VISITING YOUR WEBSITE.

What is the purpose of a website? Simply, it is to help form connections with potential clients or consumers. So, what is the reason for the lack of traffic? I know it is disheartening to review your analytics and see that you have no traffic. I experienced this too. I simply fell off the content wagon and noticed my traffic dropping. It happens to the best of us. If it does do not fall into a downward spiral and question your business plan.

This is not the time to question why you went into business. Is my product worth buying? Why won't people ask about my services? Should I pack my office and shut the doors? STOP THINKING LIKE THAT! It is time to hold your head up and face the fact that you probably have something wrong with your website not your reason for going into business.

People want to connect with you. They really want to visit your website. They are already online researching solutions, products and services that they need. The issue with the lack of traffic isn't the lack of people on the internet but the lack of a road leading to your website.


KEYWORDS. KEYWORDS! KEYWORDS?

You love your keywords. You splatter them all over your page. They help drive your search engine rankings. Here is the problem with this process. People want to read real content. They do not speak in keywords. Yes this will help search engine rankings. The down side of this way of thinking is that your potential customers will not get any value from your content. It doesn't explain what your company has to offer. This ultimately will increase your bounce rate.


A LACK OF A SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE.

I know you have a lot of other things on your plate and this is an area that you don't think is important. Guess what, you are wrong! You do not need to be on every social media platform. You should be on one that is right for you. There are many different platforms to choose from. If you are looking for the ideal solution on which platform to choose you will not find it here. Yet, I plan to explore the different options in a later post.


TO BLOG OR NOT TO BLOG?

That is the question. If you are blogging guess what, you aren’t doing it enough. What do you do when you blog?

  1. You are educating your potential clients about your company and services. It shows them you are an expert and not someone who is making outlandish claims.

  2. Share your passion. That is the one thing we as business owners share. Share that passion with your potential clients. Show them your love.

  3. Being consistent with your posts shows that you are trustworthy and dependable.

  4. Blogs give search engines a reason to index your site. What does that mean. Every blog you post is a separate page on your website. This means more opportunities to be found online.

  5. It is a great way to attract organic visits to your site. This is because they are looking for content that is important to them.

There are a lot of reasons to blog. The benefits for your company are great. Just think of all the pieces of content that you can create from one post.


STRANGER DANGER!

The design of your website matters. It helps viewers learn about your business and products or services. It is the digital perception of business. Would you visit a shop that is selling a product you need that is the middle of a seedy side of town? Most of us won't. If your website is not well designed and easy to navigate then it is time to rethink the design of the site.


SERACH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION

I have been putting SEO off long enough. Search engines are like phone books. I know who uses phone books anymore? Well that was a point where people started their research. Now we look on the internet. That means your website needs to be optimized for the specific keywords and phrases you want to rank for in the search engines. Here is a scary fact, most consumers will only search the first page for products and services. That means you need to choose the right keyword combinations in order to get your website on the first page.


PAY-PER-CLICK AD CAMPAIGNS

We all know it takes money to make money. This is a great way to target potential customers. PPC campaigns are easy to set-up and there are many outlets to use. You should take time and see whether search engine campaigns or social media campaigns are better for your business. Most business that use social media campaigns do so because they are driving their traffic to a specific landing page. They want their potential customers to learn about a product or service that they are offering. How ever if you are not on the coveted first page of the search engine a ppc campaign from a search engine might be the way to go. If you have the capital then use them both. You are trying to increase your traffic and your analytics will tell you where your traffic is coming from.


TAKE TO THE STREETS!

The final piece of advise is old school. Even if you are an internet based business, don’t forget to advertise. One of the most cost effective and simple forms of advertising is your business card. Pass them out! What are they doing just sitting on your desk at work? Use them where you can. Drop them in the fishbowl at your favorite sandwich shop. They are meant to be seen. Ensure that you have your web address on them and all of the contact information is current. Never pass out a card with incorrect information.


Now that you have some knowledge on why your traffic could be lacking it is time to fix it. This is by no means a comprehensive list. It is a starting point to discover why your traffic is lacking.
