I love design. That is one of the reasons I became a designer. I like looking around online and in life to find many different examples of design that puts me in a happy place. We are constantly bombarded by examples of good and bad design. I am capturing examples of design that makes me happy on our pinterest page. As designers we all have a style that we find interesting and inspiring.
I often find myself staring at a store sign, company logo on a van, or an outdoor advertisement and I am sent to a happy place. It is nice to see good work out there. Don't get me wrong I am not in some sort of designer's utopia. There are a lot and I do mean a lot of bad examples of design out there. I also find myself scratching my head thinking who created this logo? Why did the designer not do a little more to produce something that would look a little better? Did they just take the money and run? I find myself thinking I would not be happy if I was the client and they presented me with this design. I remember a quote from Paul Rand - "Don't try to be original try to be good."
This quote resonates with me. My interpretation of this quote is, don't try to save the world with your design. You do not need to come up with a cutting edge blow the roof off design with every project. Just design to the best of your abilities and strive to make something that makes you and your client happy. Designers need to approach every job as a potential portfolio piece. Wow the client with your talent, that is going to make them happy and give you a wonderful testimonial. To see some of the designs that make me happy visit our pinterest page.
